Recent appointment: Director, Learning Enhancement and Innovation

The University has made e-learning development a key focus for its strategic investment in supporting knowledge discovery for all students, as well as in outward engagement as a member of edX(link is external), the MOOC consortium of world-leading universities.

The University is seeking to appoint a Director of Learning Enhancement and Innovation. This newly-created appointment will contribute high-level leadership and management in the provision of support to the University’s five Faculties. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Learning) (link is external)it will lead coordinated services, development initiatives and impact evaluations for learning enhancement and innovation broadly scoped, including in the key areas of e-learning and learning analytics, and across teaching excellence, and staff development and recognition. The Director will provide oversight of delivery of a range of large-scale e-learning projects and services, advice on strategic priorities and best practices in blended and e-learning, and oversight and development of new initiatives in the area of learning analytics.

Working in close collaboration with key stakeholders and partners across the institution, including the Associate Director of Learning and Teaching Technologies in Technology Services, the Director will contribute change and thought leadership at a senior level to meet the objectives of the University’sBeacon of Enlightenment Strategic Plan 2013-2023(link is external) and related plans including the forthcomingStrategy for Learning, Teaching and Assessment 2016-18.

The Director will lead a team to deliver forward-looking services and projects that support best practice, catalyse creative innovation, and take a lead in identifying emerging pedagogical needs and solutions. The right person is results-oriented and will promote evidence-based approaches to enhancement and innovation in learning, teaching and assessment across the University. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute strongly to the enhancement of student learning experiences and success at the University of Adelaide.

Position requirements

Candidates must have substantial high-level expertise in:

·             Strategic leadership and change management in the field of learning and teaching enhancement and innovation in higher education, broadly scoped;

·             Leadership of effective e-learning services and multiple, complex e-learning enhancement projects that require highly-developed organisational and project leadership skills;

·             Fostering strong collaborative stakeholder relationships at a senior level, and communicating, negotiating and influencing successfully across teams and service boundaries;

·             People leadership, management and development, including the ability to direct and manage complex, team-based work and foster high performance in a rapidly changing higher education environment.

Position details

The position is a five year Senior Manager-level appointment. A generous provision of 17% employer contribution to superannuation applies. The University will support the national or international relocation of the right candidate.
