Climateworks bridges the gap between research and climate action, operating as an independent not-for-profit within Monash University.
Co-founded in 2009 by The Myer Foundation and Monash University, Climateworks sits within the Monash Sustainable Development Institute. Currently numbering more than 200 researchers, educators, doctoral students and professionals, Climateworks is dedicated to tackling the biggest global challenges via transdisciplinary partnerships across Monash University to span academia, industry, government and the community
Consisting of an experienced team located in Melbourne and Canberra within Australia and in Jakarta in Indonesia, the Climateworks operations in South Asia includes experts in the region, and a strong network to support the work in Indonesia.
The work of Climateworks provides evidence based solutions, and contributes capacity building for leaders and executives. Working with key stakeholders in government and industry, Climateworks solutions advise policy makers for lasting impact.

About the position
The position is responsible for driving and managing high-level strategic relationships and partnerships that will play a significant part in influencing emissions reductions at scale in Indonesia. A senior leadership position, the role is critical in leading all aspects of the program and business development across systems in Indonesia, including fundraising, drawing on deep contextual understanding of the political economy, policy landscape and points for intervention to inform design of programs that can drive emissions reduction at scale. The position will be required to guide the delivery of the programs in Indonesia by providing country and policy context to ensure alignment with system intervention points, building and maintaining strategic relationships with key decision makers and influencers, identifying opportunities for Climateworks to have impact on emissions reduction at scale and securing program funding. For work planning and implementation, the Country Lead reports to the Head of Policy and Engagement at Climateworks Centre and works in collaboration with the senior leadership Climateworks to ensure its continued impact on emissions reduction in Indonesia.
The position oversees a growing team that leads business/program development in new systems within
Indonesia, including securing program funding and making a significant contribution to program development in existing systems to ensure these are designed to capture or open windows of opportunity for impact. As a senior leader within the global Climateworks Team, the Country Lead will represent Climateworks externally at country level forums and in the media.
The Right Candidate
To be considered for this appointment, applicants must have experience working on climate change and sustainable development progress in Indonesia, with demonstrable experience in program design in multiple contexts for affecting change and delivering results. The right candidate brings understanding of the national context of Indonesia, particularly as it relates to emissions reduction, government and policy and the systems across which Climateworks operates.
In addition, successful leadership of Climateworks in Indonesia in its next phase requires a leader who has an entrepreneurial spirit coupled with proven ability to innovate and champion the exploration of new ideas and methodologies, and to identify, pursue and secure funding and projects through successful contract negotiation with government, industry, corporate and donor organisations.
A strong record of government and industry networking and engagement and capacity to influence, foster and sustain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including board level executives, policymakers and senior stakeholders from research, development and donor agencies, corporate, financial, and philanthropic institutions is also essential. Applicants must demonstrate experience in facilitating stakeholders to act, identifying influencers and champions, securing their participation in industry and policy processes, and managing multistakeholder endorsement of co-designed outcomes. To qualify for this appointment, the new Head must bring outstanding interpersonal and communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia with the ability to negotiate, influence and build consensus at senior levels and with diverse stakeholders on complex, sensitive issues.
As the head of an established and growing operation in Indonesia, a record in leading, motivating and developing a professional team to deliver service excellence and quality improvements is a must.
